Andrew's Birthday Round 2

Due to illness we had to celebrate Andrew's birthday in segments. Once Grandma & Grandpa were feeling better they came over to deliver their gift. It was a Melissa & Doug wooden train set. The boys have a little of the wooden train already, but this set is huge!
Harrison insisted that I "follow the directions" and make the track for them.
(There were layout ideas included with the set)

The boys sat patiently as I built it for them.

So excited to try it out!

They are learning to share and play together nicely.
Alicia & Adam were going to come down for his party, but when we had to change plans they couldn't make it. Instead, Alicia gave him his present when she came down to celebrate Mother's day with Mommy & Nana.
A giant beanbag style chair. Great for movie watching!
And it is big enough for both the boys to sit in it together!
Uncle Alex & Aunt Megan sent Andrew a Mater wagon. It came in a million pieces! It was a good thing he wasn't home when it came so that Mommy had a chance to put it together for him! When you push the button on his air cleaner he says phrases. Both the boys love it!
They usually haul toys around the house in it (usually build-a-bears)
but Andrew insisted in having his picture taken in it!
Thanks for all the wonderful gifts! Andrew loves them all!

Andrew's Birthday Party

Sickness has finally left our house, so we held Andrew's birthday party this afternoon. His party was scheduled for Monday and his actual birthday was Wednesday, but it was pretty appropriate to hold his party today since he was born on Mother's day.

It is hard to believe my little peanut is two!
He is getting more chatty everyday . . . and it is so fun to see his personality blossom. He currently loves farm animals, especially cows!
So we had a farm birthday party for him.

Grandma & Grandpa were unable to make it this afternoon since they are now sick with the flu, and Alicia & Adam gave him his gift yesterday. We will hold another little celebration with Grandma & Grandpa, hopefully on Wednesday. Today it was Nana, Boppa, & Aunt Ronda.
Trying out his new tractor.

Harrison was so excited to give Andrew the Legos
he got while they were with Grandma last week.
He has been carrying it around for days!
He wrapped it this afternoon while Andrew napped,
held onto the gift until he woke up, and insisted on helping him open it!

My Lego boys!

Daddy bringing in our big birthday gift.
He barely made it in the door before Andrew got excited!

The handmade barn Daddy made for Andrew.

Complete with animals & people.

Trying out his barn & animals.

. . . and a Farmall International tractor too!
We looked everywhere for one to go with his barn
and Nana & Boppa won the prize & found it for him!

"What's on my head?!"

Boppa helped Andrew with his presents.
Andrew waited patiently as Boppa read him the cards.
Zipping up his new coat Nana made for him.

Stylin' in his cool new coat. The coat lining is Farmall tractors.

Taking a rest in his new camp chair while he eats his fruit snack.

Andrew's farm birthday . . . complete with cow plates, of course!

Super excited for his cupcakes!

A front view of his cupcakes.
Those are white chocolate barns . . . and a sheep too!

Checkin' out his sheep cupcake.

Yum!

Andrew is TWO!

I can't believe my little red head boy is two today!
He is always making us smile!

We had to postpone his birthday party that was scheduled for Monday because I got sick with the flu. Look for party pictures with the birthday boy in the near future!

Bouncing Baby Boy

Just had to do a video of Carson bouncing away! It is so much cuter than a picture. He loves this jumper! I wish we had it when Harrison & Andrew were little. He loves to bounce in it or just hang out in it while his brothers are playing on the floor beside him. If he gets quiet it is a good chance he has bounced himself to sleep. Then we carefully take him up to his crib!

The Andrew Videos

The other day after playing in the sprinkler Andrew was being a ham for the camera. I decided to take a few videos for you to enjoy!
Singing "Mister Sun" and telling me that the bird outside is a cow
(his favorite animal right now).
He says that the bird makes the sound "tweedledeet"
The boys all like watching Baby Einstein videos. We own a couple that teach sign language. Harrison used a few of the signs when he was little and learning to talk. Andrew knows most of them on the video & uses them along with his words. The ones here are: ball, eat, all done, more, and cereal.
Andrew's version of Pat-a-cake.
I like the quick ending with a "Yay!" on the end.
I hold music time at our house once a week. Some of our toddler/preschool friends come to sing and play. I always start with pitch matching games. One of the ones the kids know well is "Hello, how are you?" Sung with the pitches Sol-Mi

(If you view our blog updates via email you may have to go to the blog directly to view the videos! Here is the address if you need it: thebarnettfive.blogspot.com)

Enjoying the Spring Weather!

The last few days have been beautiful! Unfortunately, we have not been able to get out and enjoy them because of illness. We managed to stay pretty healthy all winter, but we got sick all at once this week instead! Harrison & Andrew both had ear infections, Andrew had pink eye, I had a head cold & Ryan had a bad case of the flu!

I survived taking care of everyone while they were not feeling well & I was so glad to get outside today. The boys, on the other hand, could care less. On any other given day the boys are always escaping out the backdoor when I want them to stay in. Today, however, I couldn't keep them outside!

They had their playset with rock climbing wall, slide, swings, ship wheel & telescope, the trampoline, sidewalk chalk, Little Tykes car, bubbles,
and even the sprinkler!

Harrison was the one in the worst mood & kept trying to go inside. I locked the backdoor and he proceeded to stand on the back porch, kick the door & scream. He finally won the battle . . . I gave up & we came in. Crazy kids!
Trying out the sprinkler for the first time.

He didn't get very close, just kept circling it.

The only smile I captured of him the entire time we were outside.

Bought the boys a big bubble bucket today. Andrew LOVES it!

He is my little bubble boy.
Even though he can't actually blow the bubbles himself yet,
he still tries & hauls that bucket around the yard!

Carson chillin' in the playpen with his toys.

He was happy for a little bit, but it didn't last long.
I was so busy dealing with his whiny brothers ,
he got upset that no one was paying attention to him.

Andrew finally tries out the sprinkler.
He didn't get too close,
just enough to get his hands & feet wet.

Shaking off the water.

Enjoying a swing after he got sick of the playpen.

Chillin' in his new shades!

Pretty happy to be outside in his swimsuit (even if he wasn't in the water)
and, of course, playing with bubbles!

This is the look Harrison had on his face almost the entire time!
Needless to say he is now napping! He must be over-tired,
that is all I can figure out to explain the very grumpy mood!

Four Months Old

Our happy Carson turned 4 months old last Saturday! He had a doctor's appointment this last week & we got to find out how big he has grown!

He now weighs 16 lbs. 7 oz. (73 percentile)
and is 26.5 inches long (94 percentile)!

I knew he was a big boy! He had a jump start being born at 10 lbs. 3 oz. but he just keeps getting bigger.
At 4 months he is now wearing 9-12 month clothes!
Wearing the outfit Aunt Mimi gave him.

Almost always a happy, smiling, laughing boy!

Look at those bright, blue eyes!

Baby Doves

Last year we had a pair of doves build a nest on our porch. They had 2 babies who grew quickly and left the nest. Then later in the summer the doves returned and had 2 more babies who grew and left the nest. Harrison & I loved to watch them from the front window. They make a beautiful cooing sound! Harrison enjoys watching Curious George every night before bed and there is a pigeon on the show named Compass. He called the doves Compass last summer and would check on them daily.

Well, to our surprise they returned early this spring when the weather was still very cold. They build a new nest where their old nest was last summer. They once again had two babies. Only this time the babies seemed to stay around longer. They got quite big & I was surprised that they had not left the nest yet. Last summer it seemed that they hatched and a week or so were gone (I probably just didn't notice the time passing last summer).

Finally, one of the babies left the nest, but was just on the front porch. It would walk around the porch, but not fly away. I wondered if it was confused, so I helped guide it off the porch. It flew a little & scurried under the holly bushes in our front yard. The mother found it later in the day and cuddled it. (She hadn't cuddled it at all the several days it was out of the nest on the porch.) The second baby flew out of the nest the same day into our driveway and was strutting around. I don't think either of them had the strength to fly all the way back up into the nest.

The dove in the driveway stayed by the house all day. As night fell he was still just sitting by the house. It was supposed to rain all night, so I asked Ryan to help me guide him under the holly or back onto the porch where he would be out of the rain. We got him back onto the porch and he stayed there all night & the next day. Mommy dove returned to the nest & Daddy dove came and checked on the dove on the porch. We don't know what happened to the one that Mommy had been snuggling under the holly the previous day. We hope one of the neighborhood cats didn't get it!

Now both babies are gone and Mommy dove is back up in her nest day & night. I am guessing she is sitting on some new eggs. I find them beautiful to look at, lovely to listen to, and fascinating!  I didn't realize they returned to the same spot to make a nest each year, and that they had more than one litter each year (if that's what you call it for birds too). The fascination has pretty much worn off for Harrison, being the second summer of the doves, but he still looks at them from time to time.
If you look carefully you can see the dove sitting in our driveway up against the house.

A closer picture of the same dove. This time he is up on his feet.

The other dove after Mommy left him to return to the nest.
He came out of the holly and went into the bushes between our property & the neighbor's.

Jump Around!

A friend from church gave us a jumper for Carson. Since he is such a big boy I thought I would try it out. I tucked a blanket around his belly to give him a little more stability, but his feet reached the floor nicely. In fact, I had to raise it to setting 2 because he is so tall. He loved it! He bounced in it for over an hour, just as happy as can be! The second time in it he actually bounced himself to sleep! I tried to grab my camera to get a picture of that, but the older boys woke him up. That is why he looks so puzzled in these pictures . . . he is half awake!
When nothing else seems to be working - full belly, clean diaper, playing on the floor, sitting in the swing, or snuggles from Mommy - the jumper usually does the trick! He loves to be in it while his brothers are in the playroom. He loves to bounce & watch them play!

Lots and Lots of LEGOS!

The boys love Legos! And the past few times Grandma has come to watch them for me she has brought them new sets. She says it is not for the boys...it is so she can keep them entertained & watch 3 little boys at once!

They have lots of Duplos & Harrison has traditional small Legos also. Most of the time he only plays with his "little Legos" when Andrew is napping. (Andrew likes to throw them and still likes to put toys in his mouth.)

The other morning I got done feeding Carson & thought that the other two were a little too quiet. This is the scene I found...
Playing farm Duplos together nicely in their playroom.

They were so engrossed they didn't notice my approach or me taking pictures of them!
